LOL ("laugh out loud" to those not so techy folks out there)
Yes, I'm smiling and laughing just like the classic Buddha statues. My belly may not have as much girth as the Buddha, and I'm not wearing a robe with beads, but I sure am happy to be traveling! Maybe it's because we bought an enormous wooden Buddha statue, or because we are shipping 2 HUGE crates home to Vancouver filled with furniture, drums, didgeridoos, chimes, and gifts for family and friends, or because we're leaving for Kathmandu tomorrow afternoon.
Regardless, I'm in a Buddha state of mind as I write my last post in Bali, Indonesia.
So allow me to explain the title of Life as an importer and exporter.
Once upon a time there was a beautiful couple :) who loved to rent bikes and ride all over Ubud ever careful not to get hit by motorscooters or cars or stray dogs...
Okay, too hot for story time...
We found some furniture that could not be left behind in Bali, and with days of deliberation and decision making we bought 2 pieces of furniture that some day will sit in the living room of a house that some day we may rent or own. For the time being, however, the furniture will sit in a crate until we arrive in Vancouver, and will be stored somewhere in my in-laws house. Thanks Mark and Wendy! You're the best :)
Since we were shipping 2.4 square meters of furniture home, which costs an exorbitant amount of $, we decided to off set the shipping costs by buying and packing more things. You may be asking yourself "how does buying more goods off set shipping costs?" I'm glad you asked that question. We ended up buying 7 drums and 4 didgeridoos to sell in the States or Canada to help pay for the shipping costs. We also bought a ton of other stuff, but for now we are only selling the drums and didgeridoos. So now we are official importer/exporters!
Actually, I would not mind doing this professionally, or at least as a side job. Is it unfathonable to think that we can make this part of our lives? How can we be doctors and importers/exporters? Fun questions to ponder.
When we first arrived in Ubud, Bali we were feeling ill and were frustrated with all the con artists and scammers. After recovering from Bali Belly and learning to ignore the scams, however, we have enjoyed our time here immensely. If you can picture exponential growth in your head (dig deep back to those days in Math class) imagine 'fun' on the y axis and 'time' on the x axis. Wow I'm dorky. Just in a rush...
Jacob is here to pick us up and drive to Semanyak, where will we have dinner with Step and Heather. Tomorrow we leave for an overnight in Bangkok, and then to Nepal for a couple of weeks.
Much love!
